Menk needs to be shelve

Let’s face it, Eric Menk is hurt and is in major pain, no pun intended.

Menk, the reigning PBA MVP, is suffering from a right ankle sprain right from the start of the tournament. While, I could understand his poor showing in the Philippine Cup, it’s obvious that he is bothered by his injuries.

It can be attributed from last Friday’s loss to San Miguel, Menk played 27 minutes hobbled by that injury and managed just four points and one rebound. Last night against Purefoods, he scored four points in 30 minutes.

It's quite obvious that he is having difficulties to play with that injury while being schooled by Danny Ildefonso and at one point got fooled by the driving Chris Calaguio as he was defending the San Miguel swingman.

While, Menk played major minutes last Friday, it was also in part due to Rommel Adducul’s foul troubles and the team is also missing center Andy Seigle with a season-ending injury.

Mike Holper has been used a lot in this tournament, but the seven pick in the 2005 PBA Draft is not a guy who can be relied on crashing the boards and is more of a SF type of player who can shoot from the outside.

Adducul needs to avoid his frequent useless fouls and his inconsistent number it’s hurting them when the team lacks a solid big man. It seems that Ervin Sotto has been getting some decent work lately but he’s more of a prototype of fellow St Francis alumnus Yancy de Ocampo.

Back to Menk, let’s face it, while the Kings are on a two-game slide, he needs to be shelve until his ankle fully heals, it’s better for the long run than trying to force which is more fatal. As for replacements, I know SMC has a lot of resources in getting a temporary replacement for Menk with Manny Ramos as an example but it isn’t enough.

Menk is still Ginebra’s main man (sorry Mark Caguioa), and the Ginebra faithful wants to see a 100 percent Eric Menk and not an Eric Menk in major pain, literally.
